Small Steps Lead to Big Changes
In the last blog we took an inventory on the various ways we should be taking care of ourselves. We touched on drinking more water, eating organic, non-processed foods, exercising regularly, the importance of getting outside, taking time for yourself and being true to yourself. Phew, that’s a lot! If much of what was said doesn’t ring true for you, you might be feeling a bit overwhelmed by the changes you’d like to make in your life.
Well, there’s good news. It only takes 21 days to make or break a habit. So choose one habit that you’d either like to get rid of or you’d like to implement in your life and start today! Be religious about it. If you’re only making one change at a time, the process will be easier. For example, say you want to start drinking more water and exercising more. Choose the habit you are most likely to stick with, say drinking more water. Make a plan on how you are going to do that. Perhaps downloading a water tracker would be a good idea? And tomorrow, start drinking your water and tracking it. If you do this religiously for 21 days, you will have formed a new, healthy habit.
Now to make things even easier, do this new habit for an entire month. At the beginning of the new month, chose a new habit (like adding exercise). Make a plan to add the exercise (while continuing your new water drinking habit) and execute your plan. If you continue this practice and add a new beneficial habit every month, just think how healthy you’ll be at the end of a year! The love and care you take of yourself will radiate from within. And not only will you be a stronger healthier person, but you’ll be more available to care for those around you whom you love. 🙂
